Our regional headteacher networks bring together leaders to explore different approaches to the leadership of school improvement, learn from each other and test out ideas in a safe space.
These networks are intimate, highly interactive, developmentally dynamic and seek to build strong relationships; they provide ‘headspace’ for leaders to think, reflect and learn through visiting each other’s schools.
Together we grow mutual support and development, drawing on leadership inputs to support powerful conversations. These networks are currently established in the South West, Midlands and South Central regions. Groups are formed by phase and school size and bring together schools at a similar stage of their school improvement journey.
How it works
All-day meetings are hosted by schools in the group, on rotation over the year. The group size is between 8 - 12 headteachers.
Visit days are structured to include a series of short, focused inputs from members of SLT, with facilitated discussion to follow; a learning walk and ‘live issues’ small group and plenary discussions in the afternoon.
The visit days are co-designed by the host school and a Challenge Partners facilitator and cover a diverse range of topics to provide unique learning experiences.
There are opportunities to engage middle leaders, governors and others in sharing good practice and opening up your school to peer feedback.
The networks are built on trust, openness, professionalism and an openness to others’ insights, to share good practice, take risks and learn!
“The network has proved to be an invaluable opportunity to share expertise and issues with some of the very best practitioners in a very open, honest and positive way. By meeting in our different schools, it provides rare time to reflect, test ideas, gain alternative perspectives, knowledge and approaches that we can apply or modify to our own needs or priorities’. Steve Hillier, founding member of our South West network (now CEO of Sherborne Area Schools Trust)
